SAVING THE PLANET ONE OUTFIT AT A TIME

It's Earth Week! For all of you not-yet-converted-eco-warriors who don't know, National Earth Day is on the 22nd April every year. The week around this date (that's this week if you weren't following) is dedicated to saving the planet and raising awareness on a worldwide scale. Whether it's using your empty milk cartons to create garden sculptures, saving water by not washing as much or using candles in the evening to save electricity we can all do our bit to help save the planet. Sound a bit over the top? Don't get me wrong, I love the planet (and I admit to being very strict on recycling EVERYTHING), but there are more fun ways to do your bit which don't have to involve colour-coded recycling bins and saving bowls of washing up water to water your plants with (yes I know people who do that).

With H&M recently launching their 2014 Conscious Collection (headed by Amber Valletta aka Lydia from Revenge) and giving out £5 gift vouchers if you take in a bag of your old clothes, many other high street brands have caught on to the idea that sustainable, organic fashion doesn't have to be smock dresses and linen trousers (hooray!). So here are some of my picks from the high street that will help you to help the planet, without breaking the bank.

H&M Conscious Collection brown and cream zebra patterned kimono with wide sleeves in a satin-polyester mix
I love this recycled satin-polyester Kimono from H&M's Conscious Collection, the pattern is bold and with 3/4 length sleeves it makes the perfect cover-up for Spring.
Kimono £24.99, H&M Conscious Collection

H&M Conscious Collection satin pyjama style trousers with cuffed ankles and elasticated waistband in magenta pink and cream with brown snakeskin pattern
Pyjama pants are my favourite kind of trousers, they look and feel effortless and are sooooo comfy. These H&M Conscious Collection ones are made from recycled materials.
Satin Trousers £19.99, H&M Conscious Collection

Annie Greenabelle for Topshop paisley patterned co-ordinated long sleeve crop top and knee length pencil skirt in purple, cream and orange colours
The co-ord trend has always been one of my favourites and I especially love the crop-top-and-skirt combo by Annie Greenabelle. Her collection at Topshop uses a combination of organic and fair-trade cottons.
Tipped Edge Crop Top and Bodycon Skirt £25 each, Annie Greenabelle at Topshop

Zara navy and white striped contrasting organic cotton 3/4 length sleeve tops
Every girl needs some stripes in her life and I love this shift dress and 3/4 sleeved top from Zara. Both pieces are made from organic cotton and are surprisingly cheap considering the quality.
(left) Organic Cotton Striped Dress £15.99, Zara
(right) Organic Cotton T-Shirt £12.99, Zara

Tiger cream, recycled cotton tote bag with Recycle or Die slogan printed on in black
What screams "I'm crazy about recycling" more than this bag? Yes, I have it. Yes, I use it. Yes, I believe in the slogan 100%. (It's made from recycled cotton).
Canvas Bag £2, Tiger
