I would say that my first love of fashion came from Project Runway. I LOVED that show with a passion and always thought that I could be the one up there making a ballgown out of $30 of fabric and some sequins. Unfortunately I realised early on that I am not the sewing type; I once made a lined satin swing dress at school and after weeks of perfecting it and making sure everything looked great, I managed to overlock a seam and cut my dress in half... (it ended up as a horribly baggy top). Nevertheless this didn't put me off pursuing a degree in fashion promotion (no sewing there thank you) and I think watching a multitude of films and tv shows related to fashion during my childhood only spurred me on and made me realise that this is the line of work I want to be in. So here are 10 things that tv and film taught me about the fashion industry.
#1 Ugly Betty
Never wear a poncho on your first day at work (unless it's Burberry and has your initials embroidered on it, then it's ok)
#2 Gossip Girl
You and your friends CAN be models and don't let Blair Waldorf tell you that you can't #workitgirl
#3 The Devil Wears Prada
It's not blue, it's Cerulean, and that is one thing you must remember always when shopping in Primark/TK Maxx/George at ASDA
#4 Desperate Housewives
Breathing is not as important as looking good (hey, you might as well pass out pretty)
#5 Clueless
Yellow is the colour of strength, power and courage. Do or say anything while wearing yellow and you are automatically promoted to Queen
#6 Project Runway
If you make it as a high-end fashion designer, you can't go wrong with the classy black-and-orange colour combination
#7 27 Dresses
The problem is never how many clothes you have, but how small your wardrobe is
#8 Sex & The City
No matter how old you are, with the right attitude you can always look fabulous
#9 Hannah Montana
A secret identity is never a bad thing, after all you get twice the number of outfits to wear
#10 Mean Girls
Finally, the holy grail of fashion advice: on Wednesday's we wear pink. The end.
